Well, Day 2 of house hunting was a more encouraging day. We saw 3 houses in or very close to the neighborhoods that were in very good condition. They had all been completely redone and were property managed by nice companies. We finally went with the house we saw the 1st day that was not in the neighborhoods. It was a tough decision. We prayed, we agonized, we talked, we prayed. Finally size won. None of the other houses were big enough. They either didn't quite have 3 usable bedrooms or they had very tiny kitchens. The house we chose was the biggest house we saw. So, our plan is hopefully to sell the house up here quickly, then buy and rehab something in the community.
We're not sure if we've made the right decision. In a lot of ways it seemed like the only house that would work, but we also know we could have made the others work if we had too. We prayed God would close this door if we weren't supposed to take it and he didn't. We're still unsure though, are we taking the easy way out? We still pray if this was a wrong and selfish choice that God will close this door.
So for now we're just looking forward. We really like the house and are excited about the idea of buying and rehabbing something in the future. We pray we don't become comfortable and complacent, but continue to work hard to connect with the community and seek God's will for our next step. We're excited about Memphis and the people we'll work with and for. Things feel a lot less uncertain now, which is always nice :).
Now we're on the home stretch in MI. 1 month to go. We arrived home to a broken refrigerator full of rotted food, an answering machine full of appts for next week, a stack of bills, and the burden of getting our house on the Market. I wish we could spend this last month just visiting friends, saying goodbye, and enjoying one more beautiful MI summer. Maybe it's all for the best though. This way I won't have time to dwell on what we're leaving, but will be forced to look ahead.
Thanks for following us on this journey.
